Our standard minimum order quantity for bulk virgin coconut oil is 1,000 kg (one pallet of 25 kg jerry cans or food-grade drums). Smaller trial orders from 200 kg are possible for first-time buyers. We ship LCL and FCL from Surabaya and Denpasar, quote on EXW, FOB, CIF, or DAP, and send paid pre-shipment samples on request.
This page answers the questions buyers actually ask before issuing a purchase order. If your sourcing checklist needs something not covered here, message our export desk on WhatsApp 6281128590000 or email info@balicoconutoil.com and we will reply with specifics, not sales copy.
What is the minimum order quantity for bulk virgin coconut oil?
The standard MOQ is 1,000 kg per order for cold-pressed virgin coconut oil. That equals 40 jerry cans of 25 kg, which loads cleanly onto one standard pallet. For private-label or filtered RBD coconut oil the MOQ is also 1,000 kg per SKU, since each label and viscosity grade needs its own production run.
We know 1,000 kg is a real commitment for a buyer who hasn’t worked with us before. For that reason we accept trial orders from 200 kg at a slightly higher per-kg rate to cover the short production run. A trial order lets you validate the oil against your own lab and your customers before scaling to container volume.
| Order type | Minimum quantity | Packaging | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trial order | 200 kg | 25 kg jerry cans | First-time quality check |
| Standard order | 1,000 kg | Jerry cans or 190 kg drums | Repeat wholesale buyers |
| LCL consolidation | 1,000–8,000 kg | Drums on pallets | Mixed cargo / smaller importers |
| Full container (FCL) | ~18,000–19,000 kg | Drums, 20 ft container | Distributors, manufacturers |
Do you ship FCL or LCL, and which is cheaper per kilo?
Both. LCL (less than container load) suits orders from 1,000 kg up to roughly 8,000 kg, where your cargo shares a container with other shippers. FCL (full container load) makes sense from about 12,000 kg upward; a 20 ft container holds roughly 18,000–19,000 kg of coconut oil in drums depending on packaging.
Per kilo, FCL is almost always cheaper because you pay for the whole box rather than chargeable volume plus consolidation handling. As a rough guide, the freight saving on FCL versus LCL on an Asia-to-Europe lane can be 20–35% per kilo, though actual rates move with the market. We quote live freight at the time of your order rather than publishing a number that goes stale.
Which Incoterms do you quote?
We quote the four Incoterms most B2B coconut oil buyers ask for:
- EXW (Ex Works, our Bali warehouse) — you arrange everything from our gate. Best if you have a freight forwarder you trust.
- FOB (Free On Board, Surabaya or Tanjung Perak) — we handle export clearance and loading; you own the ocean freight and import side. This is the most common choice for experienced importers.
- CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight, your destination port) — we cover ocean freight and marine insurance to your port; you handle import clearance and inland delivery.
- DAP (Delivered At Place) — we deliver to your address; you handle import duties and taxes. Simplest for buyers who want a near-turnkey landed price.
If you are new to coconut oil importing, tell us your destination city and we will recommend the Incoterm that keeps your risk and paperwork manageable. We use Incoterms 2020 definitions on every quotation.
Can I get a sample before placing an order?
Yes. We send paid pre-shipment samples of 250 ml or 500 ml so your QC team can run moisture, free fatty acid, peroxide value, and sensory checks. We charge for the sample and courier because honest sample handling costs real money; we do not pretend samples are free and then bury the cost in the unit price.
Sample courier to most destinations takes 4–8 business days via express air. We label every sample with its production batch so the result you test matches the batch language in your eventual contract. If you order within 60 days of approving a sample, we credit the sample cost against your first invoice.
What are your payment terms?
For first orders we work on a 30% deposit on order confirmation, 70% balance against a copy of the bill of lading (or before release of documents). This split protects both sides: your deposit secures the production slot and raw coconut, and the balance is tied to proof that your cargo is actually loaded.
| Stage | First order | Repeat buyers (after 2–3 clean orders) |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit | 30% on PI signing | 30% on PI signing |
| Balance | 70% vs B/L copy | Negotiable: partial net terms or LC |
| Payment method | T/T bank transfer | T/T or irrevocable L/C at sight |
We accept telegraphic transfer (T/T) as standard and irrevocable letters of credit at sight for larger FCL orders. We do not offer open-account terms to a buyer we have not shipped to before. That is a deliberate honesty position, not a lack of flexibility.
How long is the lead time?
Plan for 2 to 4 weeks from confirmed payment to cargo ready, depending on order size and whether the oil is from current stock or a fresh press. Private-label orders that need printed labels and custom packaging add about 1 week for artwork sign-off and materials.
- In-stock standard VCO, 1,000 kg: roughly 7–10 business days to ready-for-pickup.
- Fresh-press order, FCL volume: 3–4 weeks including pressing, filtering, lab check, and packing.
- Private label with custom drums/cartons: add 5–7 business days.
Ocean transit is separate and depends on your lane: budget 18–25 days to most European ports and 16–22 days to North America from East Java, subject to carrier schedules. We give you a realistic date, not an optimistic one.
What certificates do you provide?
Every shipment ships with a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) tied to the production batch and a Certificate of Origin (Form for the destination market) issued through Indonesian trade channels. The CoA reports moisture, free fatty acid, peroxide value, and color so your incoming inspection has documented numbers to verify against.
We will only list a certification on a document if we genuinely hold it for the product you are buying. If your market requires a specific scheme — organic, kosher, halal, or a food-safety system certificate — tell us the exact requirement before you order, and we will confirm in writing whether that certificate applies to your batch and what it costs to issue. We never attach a certificate name to a product it does not legally cover, because a single falsified document can sink an import clearance and a buyer relationship.
